Groupon Now, the new Happy Hour!

The following article gives us some more insight on Groupon’s development strategy.
Indeed, the social commerce, daily-deal company is preparing a mobile application which is very likely to drive some new shopping behaviors!

Divided into two parts, “I’m hungry” and “I’m bored”, you will avail an array of live discounts respectively on exclusive F&B options, and on Groupon’s other range of attractions and services such as spa treatments and much more!

Known as Groupon Now, the application will operate as a location based services and therefore avail discounts accordingly. In other words, local businesses’ offers are automatically displayed.

The competitive advantage for businesses is to react according to a seasonal lack of demand volume on a very timely basis. This turns to be extremely profitable for F&B outlets and businesses with perishable inventory, giving live solutions for Yield Managers!

Groupon application will be available in April…would you download it, why?

Mobile Marketing developped via foursquare & Gowalla

As highlighted in the first article , many a business have developed SoLoMo Marketing initiatives via FourSquare Location Based services platform. We notice several categories of initiatives which correspond to several categories of deals and/or contexts.

“Flash specials” as developed for instance by the retailer Sports Authority allow the first people to check-in at a due time for a discount…the New Gold Rush!

“Friends specials”, as run by H&M rewards you collectively for checking-in with friends at their retail stores…for four foursquare friends checked-in simultaneously, H&M offers 24% off of any item! Other businesses taking advantage of FourSquare include Toys’R’Us, Whole Food, Chili’s…

“Newbie Specials” give the mean for new businesses to attract new customers by rewarding your first check-in with a welcome discount.
FourSquare is also planning to develop “Frequency specials” to reward you for reaching a certain amount of check-ins on the one hand, and for a minimum frequency of check-in per week on the other hand.

The second article , is actually a press release from Four Seasons. Contrary to the above, Four Seasons is using Gowalla location based services platform in order to market their Hotels of California. The six Four Seasons hotels of the region have created ititneraries on Gowalla since September last year, so that guests can check-in as they explore the Concierge exclusive spots Most interestingly, the application rewards you for checking-in with exclusive discounts for your favourite hotel’s spa or restaurant’s outlets…a fun way to bring ancillatory revenue along with exclusive service!

Run a Website or Blog? You Can Help Japan With One Code Snippet

This article published on Mashable.com displays a clever initiative that may impulse millions of bloggers and web site owners to find real-time ways to get involved and help the Japanese people after the tragic 8.9 earthquake that has recently hit the country, not to mention the tsunami and nuclear concerns which have followed.

Simply by using Hellobar , as an invited user (that's to say for free), you will be able to set up within a few seconds a floating bar with a short message linking your website or your blog to the charity of your choice.

I have personally chosen to support the Japanese Red Cross, therefore each of you is invited to use the above floating bar and visit the Japanese Red Cross website, and to donate.

The success of your Hellobar is then recorded and data can be accessed via your HelloBar account. Of course, the initiative also helps Hellobar demonstrating potential users how easy, customizable and convenient it is to adopt!

Nevertheless, we may conclude that it also gives credit to the impact of social media today. After the Social Media revolutions of Tunisia, Egypt, and Lybia where video contents used by international News TV Channels constituted of a panel of shared content (Youtube videos, personal videos, as opposed to professional Live coverage), the catastrophes of Japan (not to forget that of New Zealand...) have been socially shared with even greater impact! So that it was measured that there were 1200 tweets per minute from Tokyo alone on the first day of the earthquake!

That gives you an idea...
